CHASA HAMMERS PORTFOLIO COMMITTEE IN ENVIRONMENTAL AFFAIRS FOR POOR DECISION
Parliament, Wednesday, 6 February 2019 – The Portfolio Committee on Environmental Affairs strongly condemns the actions of South African National Parks (SANParks) in proceeding to sign the cooperative agreement between the Kruger National Park and the Association of Private Nature Reserves despite the directives of Parliament. This because some of the private game reserves to be included in the Kruger border moving deal, allows hunting as wildlife management system.
CHASA CEO, Stephen Palos made an answering statement in which he seriously questions the capacity of committe members to take decisions in the contxt of sustainable use of renewable natural resources. Sustainable use is the basis for our national conservation strategy, which is at the same time people and nature centred.
