MINISTER OF POLICE APPEALS VERDICT OF 4 JULY 2017 RE SECTIONS 24 & 28 OF FCA
Dear Member,
The Minister of Police has on 28 July 2017 given notice that he has entered an Appeal with the Constitutional Court on the 4 July 2017 judgement by Judge Tolmay re the SA Hunters' case re revision of sections 24 & 28 of the FCA - see our Newsletters Vol 13(19) and Vol 13(20) and Vol 13(21) re Judge Tolmay's judgement.
This means that the status quo re the wording of sections 24 & 28 will remain in place as it stood before Judge Tolmay's judgement was made, until the Constitutional Court had decided on the validity of Judge Tolmay's judgement.
When the Constitutional Court will give their verdict on the Appeal, is not known. We shall keep members informed the moment we know.
In the mean time we strongly advise that members adhere to our suggestions re renewals of white firearm licence cards contained in our Newsletter Vol 13(21)
