NO AMNESTY YET - BE PREPARED WHEN IT IS ANNOUNCED
Dear Member,
On 11 September 2019, SAPS were ordered by the Parliamentary Committee on Police to wait until the finalisation of the GOSA court case before contemplating any amnesty. The Minister of Police wanted to implement a firearms amnesty from 1 October 2019 to 31 March 2020.
Indications are that an amnesty will, however, be declared at some time in the future.
Such an amnesty will probably allow for members of who white licences had expired, to apply for new licences for those firearms. What the details of such a process will be is not clear yet.
