FORMAL COMPLAINT SUBMITTED TO PUBLIC PROTECTOR RE FIREARMS TRAINING

Dear Member,

Our Newsletter, 20 (05) dated 12-07-2024 on a similar subject, has reference.

SafeCitizen has entered a formal complaint with the Public Protector regarding the illegal manner in which the Quality Control for Trades and Occupations (QCTO), and the Department of Higher Education had conducted themselves in not ascertaining that the public firearms training qualification, 50480 (proficiency training in the private firearms fraternity), was timeously replaced, or realigned, so that the "new" unit standards for training to apply for private firearms ownership, could be presented from 1 July 2024.

On urgent request of the PFTC, the Gauteng High Court issued an interim Order in which it indicated that the existing qualification 50480, would remain in place until the Minister of Higher Education has replaced, or realigned, the qualification with a new qualification (see Interim Court Order)

The formal complaint of SafeCitizen submitted to the Public Protector can be read HERE

Natshoot extends its sincere appreciation to SafeCitizen for taking the initiative by submitting the complaint to the Public Protector, as the actions of the Department of Higher Education and the QCTO,  could possibly be construed as a deliberate action to at the least, frustrate the public to enter the first steps in the process of firearm licencing for themselves.

We shall keep members informed of any changes in this context.

Please take care and always be aware of what happens around you.

Kind Regards

Natshoot Office
