SAPS FINALLY OFFICIALLY ACKNOWLEDGES THE LEGAL VALIDITY OF GREEN LICENCES
Dear Member,
The Acting National Commissioner of SAPS on 8 May 2017 issued a directive to all SAPS personnel confirming the legality and validity of the Green Licences issued under the 1969 Act.
The complete directive can be downloaded HERE - carry a copy of this directive with you if you have a green licence for a firearm for which the white licence had expired and you had not renewed that licence on time (See paragraph 2 bullet one in the directive).
The directive mentions that people who have not renewed their white licences on time, must hand those firearms in with SAPS. We advise that you rather do nothing and wait the outcome of the SA Hunters' case heard in late April this year - we shall inform all members of the outcome.
If you do hand in a firearm, make sure you indicate that the firearm must be kept in safe keeping and not be destoyed until you know how to manage the late application.
Kind Regards
